Meditating Sterility, 2024 - Ongoing
Biopolymer, beeswax, pheromones of various pollinating insects, pigments, living orchids, vanilla, milk, water pumping systems
In an era of mass extinctions, endocrine disruptors, and monocultures, several artificial intelligence models were asked to imagine sterility in search of a symbol. Their projections were translated into a sculptural form with a strange appearance, hovering between bone, mutation, flower, and organ.
These biopolymer forms are painted with beeswax infused with pigments and pheromones, acting on different pollinating insects. They host living epiphytic orchids, symbols of fertility whose reproductive strategies rely on deceptive morphologies. The scent released into the space is a synthesis of various orchids and milks.
A mist of untreated water, collected from the surroundings of the exhibition site, is pumped and diffused onto the orchids, sustaining them while embedding the work within its immediate environment.
